DIG Launches Four-Year Housing Finance for the Poor Initiative with
Support from Major US Foundation
In October 2006, DIG launched a four-year, multi-country program with the
purpose of advancing the state of knowledge on key issues related to
housing finance for the poor. The program, initiated with the support of a
major US-based foundation, will support innovations in the areas of
housing microfinance, mortgage finance for the poor, smart subsidies,
slum improvements, and the role of housing finance in post emergency
settings.
DIG will work with key partners in six focus countries throughout the world to
pursue the objectives of the program. DIG will provide (or help program
partners procure) technical support in the areas of strategic planning,
product development, training, operations support, technology, and
monitoring and evaluation. Furthermore, DIG will operate a small fund (the
CapStone Fund) designed to provide, as appropriate, matching strategic
