In March 2007, DIG held its first annual global housing finance for the poor
workshop. The workshop took place in Mumbai (India) and included DIG
program partners from ICICI (India), TAMEER Bank (Pakistan), MICRA
(Indonesia), FINMARK Trust (South Africa), DAMAN (Lebanon), as well as
representatives from Habitat for Humanity, OPIC, and Cornell University.
DIG held the workshop to showcase early progress on its recently-launched
global housing finance for the poor initiative and to discuss the program's
design and implementation strategy. Highlights included DIG's partnership
with TAMEER Bank for the creation of TAMEER Housing in Pakistan as well
as DIG's alliance with ICICI Bank for the forthcoming launch of CapStone, an
ambitious initiative focusing on housing microfinance and mortgage finance
for low income earners in India.
